IIHS Awards 2014 Jeep Cherokee Top Safety Pick Honor

Cynics, be warned: the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is out to crush expectations. Ever since its design was unveiled, the reincarnation of the brand's fabled Cherokee line has been turning heads, and blazing trails. Not only does this SUV off-road like a beast, though, it's also pretty darn safe.

At least, that's the word from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), who recently subjected the new Jeep Cherokee to its routine onslaught of tests. The outcome saw the SUV garner a Top Safety Pick rating, cementing its reputation not just as a capable off-roader, but a safe on-roader.

The IIHS tests vehicles not just on how they handle front, rear, and side impacts, but also how they handle other kinds of crashes, such as roll over, and moderate overlap crashes. A rigorous gauntlet, to be sure, but one the Cherokee passed with the highest marks in each.

The Jeep Cherokee's high score on these tests is owed, no doubt, to the 70+ safety features the automaker built into their new SUV. This includes advanced-technology steel built into the car's chassis, ten standard airbags, and reactive head restraints.

So needless to say, if you want to have a whole bundle of off-road fun while still feeling secure on-road, you've found a fine companion in the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Want to see how you feel behind the wheel? Drop by our Antigo, WI dealership, and sign up for a test drive you won't soon forget.
