Prep Your RAM 1500 for the Trail

Now is the perfect time to use your RAM truck to its full capabilities. With Spring officially here, the off-roading season has started. At Brickner's of Antigo we fully support our RAM customers when they tell us they want to utilize their vehicles to the full capabilities - and we love hearing all the details.

The RAM 1500 is not only built to be a dependable work truck, but also made for fun. And here in Antigo, WI, we know a lot about this. Being behind the wheel of a RAM is enjoyable, whether you're on the road or off. So before you get out there and enjoy the warm weather with fun behind the wheel, we want to share some off-roading details to make sure you're ready.

Knowing your truck like the back of your hand is the first priority. Fully understanding the features will ensure you get the most out of the vehicle. Gaining the knowledge will come not only from reading the owner's manual, but also from firsthand driving experience. Equipped with four-wheel drive and other features, knowing the different uses will come in handy.

  • 4x4 high, or 4H, is the all-purpose setting designed to be used on a wide variety of terrains and at different speeds.
  • 4x4 Low, or 4L, is the setting to use for more treacherous off-roading experiences. An increased torque is delivered to all four wheels and maximum operable speed is much lower than the 4H.
  • If you're looking to scale steep terrain, understand the approach angle is imperative. This is the angle at which the vehicle can operate without any part of the body or suspension touching the ground.
  • The wheelbase determines the type of terrain that your truck can operate on. It's a measurement of the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel on the same side.
  • Taking the right safety measures and precautions before heading off-road includes making you're your gas tank is full, have a spare tire, tow rope and first aid kit.

With increased knowledge and understanding of your truck, you'll be ready for whatever terrain Wisconsin throws at you. The next step is getting your truck into our RAM service and repair center where we'll perform routine maintenance and make sure all features are running correctly. Stop into our dealership or give us a call at (866)610-8801 and we'll be happy to inspect your vehicle and perform any necessary maintenance.
